Definition
The baseline is the invisible horizontal line on which most letters sit in a line of text. It is the fundamental reference point for all typographic measurements — including x-height, cap height, ascenders, and descenders. In design and layout work, aligning elements to a consistent baseline grid creates visual order and professional polish in thumbnails, presentations, and branded materials.
