Definition
A pre-release testing phase in which access to a product, platform, or service is restricted to a specifically invited or selected group of users. Closed betas allow developers and creators to gather focused feedback from a controlled group — typically power users, industry experts, or loyal community members — before expanding access. For creators, a closed beta creates exclusivity and social proof, as invited participants often become vocal advocates who generate organic buzz before the public launch.
