Definition
Digg was a pioneering social news aggregation website launched in 2004 that allowed users to submit and vote ('digg') on web content, with the most popular stories rising to the front page. At its peak in 2008, Digg was one of the most visited websites in the world and a major driver of viral content. Its decline after a controversial redesign in 2010 is a landmark case study in how poor product decisions can destroy a dominant platform. Digg's collapse directly benefited Reddit, which absorbed much of its user base.
