Definition
A global shutter is a camera sensor technology that captures all pixels simultaneously in a single instant, eliminating the rolling shutter distortion that occurs when pixels are read sequentially. Global shutter sensors are particularly valuable for filming fast-moving subjects, sports, and action content where rolling shutter artifacts would be problematic. They are increasingly available in professional cinema cameras and high-end mirrorless systems.
