Definition
Intellectual Property (IP) is a category of legal rights that protect creations of the mind — including inventions, literary and artistic works, designs, symbols, names, and images used in commerce. The four main types of intellectual property are copyright (protecting creative works), trademark (protecting brand identifiers), patent (protecting inventions), and trade secret (protecting confidential business information). For content creators, intellectual property is the foundation of their business: their videos, scripts, channel branding, and original frameworks are all forms of IP that can be licensed, sold, or enforced against infringers. Understanding IP is essential for protecting creative work and negotiating fair compensation.
