Kerning

Also known as:Letter Pair Spacing

Definition

Kerning is the adjustment of space between individual pairs of characters in a word or headline to achieve visually balanced, optically consistent spacing. Unlike tracking (which adjusts spacing uniformly across all characters), kerning addresses specific letter pair combinations that appear too tight or too loose due to their shapes. Proper kerning is essential for professional logo design, thumbnails, and title cards.
