Definition
Leading (pronounced 'ledding') is the vertical space between lines of text, measured from baseline to baseline. The term originates from the strips of lead used to separate lines in traditional typesetting. In digital design, leading (or line-height in CSS) significantly affects readability — too tight creates visual crowding, too loose disrupts reading flow. Proper leading is essential for thumbnails, titles, and body copy.
