A YouTube moderator is a person designated by a channel owner to help manage live chat during YouTube Live streams and Premieres. YouTube mods can put users in slow mode, hide messages, and remove participants from chat. They are identified by a wrench icon next to their name in chat. Assigning trusted community members as moderators allows creators to focus on their content during live events without being distracted by chat management. Moderators do not have access to the channel's backend or analytics.
