Morality Clause

Also known as:Morals ClauseConduct Clause

Definition

A Morality Clause (also called a morals clause) is a contractual provision that allows a brand or platform to terminate a partnership if the creator engages in behavior deemed harmful to the brand's reputation — such as controversial statements, criminal activity, or public scandals. These clauses are standard in influencer contracts and brand deals, and their scope can vary widely. Creators should negotiate the specific language carefully, as overly broad morality clauses can give brands the power to terminate contracts based on subjective judgments. A well-negotiated morality clause should be mutual, time-limited, and clearly define what constitutes a breach.
