Definition
Platform Migration is the process of moving a creator's content, audience, and business operations from one digital platform to another, either partially or completely. Creators migrate platforms for various reasons including policy changes, monetization issues, algorithm unfavorability, platform decline, or better opportunities elsewhere. Successful platform migration requires building a portable audience — typically through an email list or owned community — before the migration begins, since follower counts and subscriber bases are platform-owned and cannot be transferred. Platform migration is one of the most challenging transitions in a creator's career and underscores the importance of audience ownership strategies.
