Read-Write

Also known as:Web2Interactive WebParticipatory Web

Definition

In internet evolution theory, Read-Write describes the Web2 paradigm in which users can both consume and create content — publishing posts, uploading videos, leaving comments, and building audiences on centralized platforms. Read-Write is the foundation of the creator economy, enabling anyone with an internet connection to become a publisher. The term is also used to describe the level of audience participation a creator cultivates — a Read-Write audience actively contributes to the conversation rather than passively consuming.
