Rights Reversion

Rights Reversion is a contractual provision that returns intellectual property rights to the original creator after a specified period of time, upon the occurrence of certain events (such as the licensee going out of business), or when the work goes out of print or active distribution. In publishing contracts, rights reversion clauses allow authors to reclaim their books if a publisher stops actively selling them. For creators who license their content to brands, platforms, or distributors, negotiating rights reversion ensures that ownership of their work eventually returns to them rather than being held indefinitely by a third party.
