Definition
A designation given to content that is experiencing a rapid spike in views, engagement, or searches within a short time window. Trending content is surfaced prominently on most platforms — YouTube's Trending tab, Twitter/X's trending topics, TikTok's Discover page. While trending content can generate massive short-term reach, it is inherently temporary. Creators who build their strategy around chasing trends rather than building evergreen content often find themselves on a content treadmill with no compounding growth.
