Watermarking

Also known as:Content WatermarkDigital WatermarkForensic Watermark

Definition

The practice of embedding a visible or invisible identifying mark into a creator's content to establish ownership, deter unauthorized use, and trace the source of content if it is stolen or redistributed without permission. Visible watermarks typically include a creator's logo or username, while invisible digital watermarks (forensic watermarking) embed encoded ownership data that survives copying.
